Privacy
The operators of this website take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the provisions of church data protection law, in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation and this Privacy Policy. Data is considered personal if it can be attributed to an identified or identifiable natural person. The legal basis for data protection for the Evangelical Church in Germany, its member churches and their associations, as well as the diaconal organizations affiliated with them, can be found in the Church Law on Data Protection of the Evangelical Church in Germany (DSG-EKD) and the Telemedia Act (TMG).
This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how we use it. It also explains how and for what purpose this is done.
Please note that data transmission over the Internet (e.g., when communicating via email) may be subject to security vulnerabilities. It is not possible to completely protect data from access by third parties.

How do we collect your data?
Your data is collected, first, when you provide it to us. This may include, for example, data you enter into a contact form.
Other data is collected automatically by our IT systems when you visit the website. This consists primarily of technical data (e.g., internet browser, operating system, or time of page view). This data is collected automatically as soon as you access our website.
How do we use your data?
Some of the data is collected to ensure the website functions properly. Other data may be used to analyze your user behavior.
What rights do you have regarding your data?
You have the right at any time to receive information, free of charge, about the origin, recipients, and purpose of your stored personal data. You also have the right to request the correction, restriction, or deletion of this data.
Withdrawal of Your Consent to Data Processing
Many data processing operations are only possible with your express consent. You may withdraw any consent you have already given at any time. To do so, simply send us an informal email. The lawfulness of the data processing carried out prior to the withdrawal remains unaffected by the withdrawal.
Right to Object to Data Collection in Specific Cases and to Direct Marketing (Section 25 DSG-EKD)
If data processing is based on § 6(1), (3), (4), or (8) of the DSG-EKD, you have the right at any time to object to the processing of your personal data for reasons arising from your particular situation; this also applies to profiling based on these provisions. The specific legal basis on which processing is based can be found in this Privacy Policy. If you object, we will no longer process your personal data in question, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing that override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or the processing is necessary to comply with legal obligations to which we are subject.
If your personal data is processed for the purpose of direct marketing, you have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for such marketing purposes; this also applies to profiling to the extent that it is related to such direct marketing. If you object, your personal data will no longer be used for direct marketing purposes.
Right to File a Complaint with the Competent Supervisory Authority
In the event of violations of the DSG-EKD, data subjects have the right to file a complaint with the EKD Data Protection Officer (Invalidenstr. 29, 10115 Berlin). This right to file a complaint is without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedies.
Right to Data Portability
You have the right to have data that we process automatically—based on your consent or in fulfillment of a contract—provided to you or to a third party in a commonly used, machine-readable format. If you request the direct transfer of the data to another data controller, this will only be done to the extent that it is technically feasible.
For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content—such as orders or inquiries you send to us as the website operator—this site uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the browser’s address bar changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock icon in your browser’s address bar.
If SSL or TLS encryption is enabled, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
Access, Restriction, Erasure, and Correction
In accordance with applicable legal provisions, you have the right at any time to receive, free of charge, information about your stored personal data, its origin, recipients, and the purpose of data processing, as well as the right to have this data corrected, restricted, or deleted, if applicable. For this and any other questions regarding personal data, you may contact us at any time at the address provided in the legal notice.
Right to Restriction of Processing
You have the right to request that the processing of your personal data be restricted. To do so, you may contact us at any time at the address provided in the legal notice. The right to restriction of processing applies in the following cases:
If you dispute the accuracy of your personal data stored by us, we generally need time to verify this. For the duration of the verification, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.
If the processing of your personal data was or is unlawful, you may request that the processing of your personal data be restricted instead of erased.
If we no longer need your personal data but require it to exercise, defend, or assert legal claims, you have the right to request that the processing of your personal data be restricted instead of erased.
If you have filed an objection, a balancing of interests must be conducted between your interests and those of the church. As long as it has not yet been determined whose interests prevail, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.
If you have restricted the processing of your personal data, such data—apart from its storage—may be processed only with your consent, or for the purpose of asserting, exercising, or defending legal claims, or to protect the rights of another natural or legal person, or for reasons of a compelling interest of the Evangelical Church in Germany.
Data Collection on Our Website
Cookies
Some of the pages on this website use so-called cookies. Cookies do not harm your computer and do not contain viruses. Cookies help make our website more user-friendly, effective, and secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and saved by your browser.
Most of the cookies we use are so-called “session cookies.” They are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Other cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them. These cookies allow us to recognize your browser the next time you visit.
You can configure your browser to notify you when cookies are set and to allow cookies only on a case-by-case basis, to block the acceptance of cookies in specific cases or generally, and to enable the automatic deletion of cookies when you close your browser. If you disable cookies, the functionality of this website may be limited.
Cookies that are necessary for carrying out the electronic communication process or for providing specific functions you have requested (e.g., the shopping cart feature) are stored. The website operator has a legitimate interest in storing cookies to ensure the technically error-free and optimized provision of its services. To the extent that other cookies (e.g., cookies used to analyze your browsing behavior) are stored, these are addressed separately in this privacy policy.
Server Log Files
The website provider automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These include:
Browser type and browser version
Operating system used
Referrer URL
Hostname of the accessing computer
Time of the server request
IP address
This data is not combined with other data sources.
This data is collected in accordance with Section 6(3) of the DSG-EKD. The website operator has a legitimate interest in ensuring the technically error-free display and optimization of its website—to this end, server log files must be collected.
Contact Form
You can contact us directly via the contact form on our website. The personal data provided when contacting us will be used exclusively for correspondence with you and will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent. We will retain this data until you either request its deletion, revoke your consent to its storage, or the purpose for storing the data no longer applies—for example, once your inquiry has been resolved. Apart from this, statutory provisions—in particular retention periods—remain unaffected. This processing is lawful pursuant to § 6 No. 4 DSG-EKD because responding to your inquiry serves the fulfillment of our duties and, at the same time, serves our interest in providing comprehensive information about our diaconal work.
Inquiries via Email, Phone, or Fax
If you contact us via email, phone, or fax, your inquiry—including all personal data contained therein (name, address, phone numbers, inquiry)—will be stored and processed by us for the purpose of handling your request. We will not disclose this data without your consent.
The processing of this data is carried out in accordance with Section 6(5) of the DSG-EKD provided that your inquiry is related to the fulfillment of a contract or is necessary for the implementation of pre-contractual measures. In all other cases, the processing is based on Section 6(3), as we have a legitimate interest in the effective handling of inquiries directed to us.
The data you send us via contact requests will remain with us until you request its deletion, revoke your consent to its storage, or the purpose for storing the data no longer applies (e.g., after your inquiry has been fully processed). Mandatory legal provisions—in particular statutory retention periods—remain unaffected.
YouTube with Enhanced Privacy Protection
Our website uses plug-ins from YouTube. The operator of these pages is YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA.
We use YouTube in enhanced privacy mode. According to YouTube, this mode ensures that YouTube does not store any information about visitors to this website before they watch a video. However, the enhanced privacy mode does not necessarily prevent the sharing of data with YouTube partners. Thus, regardless of whether you watch a video, YouTube establishes a connection to the Google DoubleClick network.
As soon as you start a YouTube video on our website, a connection is established with YouTube’s servers. In the process, the YouTube server is informed which of our pages you have visited. If you are logged into your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to directly associate your browsing behavior with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.
In addition, YouTube may store various cookies on your device after you start a video. YouTube uses these cookies to collect information about visitors to our website. This information is used, among other things, to track video statistics, improve the user experience, and prevent fraud. The cookies remain on your device until you delete them.
In some cases, additional data processing operations may be triggered after a YouTube video is played, over which we have no control.
We use YouTube to ensure an appealing presentation of our online offerings. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Section 6(8) of the DSG-EKD.
For more information about data protection on YouTube, please refer to their Privacy Policy.
Web Fonts
To ensure optimal display of our website, we use fonts provided by “fonts.com,” a service offered by Monotype GmbH, Werner-Reimers-Straße 2–4, 61352 Bad Homburg. Each time you visit our website, font data is loaded from this provider so that our website can appear as intended. These embeds are also necessary for us to bill license fees for the respective font. Further information on data usage, the responsibility of “fonts.com,” and settings options can be found in the privacy policy (www.monotype.com/legal/privacy-policy). Legal basis for data processing pursuant to Section 6(3) of the DSG-EKD.
We process this data for the purpose of the economic operation of this website. This purpose also constitutes our legitimate interest in data processing pursuant to Section 6(3) of the DSG-EKD.
Google Maps
To help you find us more easily, we have integrated map data from Google’s Google Maps service into our website via an API. In order to display the content in your browser, Google must receive your IP address; otherwise, Google would not be able to provide you with this integrated content.
The legal basis for this data processing is §6 No. 5 DSG-EKD (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), as the IP address is required to deliver the content to you. In connection with this processing, our collaboration with Google is based on a joint controller agreement pursuant to §29 DSG-EKD (Art. 26 GDPR), which can be accessed here [FD1].
Further information on data processing by Google can be found in Google’s Privacy Policy at www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy/.

Donation Form from Bank für Sozialwirtschaft AG (“BFS”)
On the website of our parent foundation (link: www.diakonie-st-martin.de), we offer users the option to make online donations. If a user takes advantage of this option, the data entered into the corresponding form is transmitted to us and stored.
The donation form is provided by Bank für Sozialwirtschaft AG (“BFS”). The data entered is therefore transmitted directly to BFS via an encrypted SSL connection for the purpose of processing the donation.
The data is not shared with any other third parties. The following data is collected via the form:
Full name (last name, first name) with title (optional: honorific and company name); address (street, house number, city, ZIP code, country); Email address; bank details (IBAN); donation details (donation recipient, amount, purpose of donation, request for a donation receipt). If a donation receipt is requested, we process the data to issue and send the corresponding donation receipt.
The data collected is necessary for the processing and execution of the donation request. The user’s email address is required to confirm receipt of the donation request. The data will not be used for any other purposes. The legal basis for processing the data is § 6 No. 4 DSG-EKD.
The user’s IP address is also stored when the form is submitted. The IP address is used for the purpose of fraud prevention and to prevent misuse of the donation form—for example, to prevent unauthorized transactions that could cause harm to third parties. The legal basis for processing the IP address is Section 6(8) of the DSG-EKD. The data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was collected. For bank details, this occurs immediately after the donation amount has been debited. Address data, along with all other data entered, is stored in accordance with tax-related retention requirements after a donation receipt has been generated and sent, if requested; however, it is blocked from any other use. The IP address collected additionally during the submission process is deleted no later than seven days after collection.
The user has the right to object to the processing of their data at any time.
To do so, please contact Ms. Doreen Lorenz:
Diakonie St. Martin
Attn: Ms. Doreen Lorenz
Mühlgasse 10
02929 Rothenburg O.L.
Phone: +49 35891 38-265
Email: spenden(at)diakonie-st-martin.de
Please note, however, that if you object, the donation request can no longer be processed as requested.
Job Applications
We offer you the opportunity to apply for a position with us (e.g., by email, mail, or via our online application form). Below, we provide information about the scope, purpose, and use of your personal data collected as part of the application process. We assure you that the collection, processing, and use of your data are carried out in accordance with applicable data protection laws and all other legal provisions, and that your data will be treated as strictly confidential.
Scope and Purpose of Online Data Collection
When you submit an application to us, we process your associated personal data (e.g., contact and communication information, application documents, notes taken during job interviews, etc.) to the extent necessary to decide whether to establish an employment relationship. The legal basis for this is § 49 DSG-EKD (initiation of an employment relationship), § 6 No. 5 DSG-EKD (general contract initiation), and your consent, if you have provided it. You may revoke your consent at any time. Your personal data will be shared within our company exclusively with individuals involved in processing your application. If your application is successful, the data you submitted will be stored in our human resources data processing systems pursuant to § 49 DSG-EKD for the purpose of carrying out the employment relationship.
Data Retention Period
All personal data collected prior to the establishment of an employment relationship will be deleted after 6 months. This does not apply if our company’s overriding legitimate interests prevent the deletion or if you consent to continued storage.
YOU MAY OBJECT TO THIS STORAGE IF YOU HAVE LEGITIMATE INTERESTS THAT OUTWEIGH OUR INTERESTS.
If it becomes apparent that the retention of your data will be necessary after the retention period has expired (e.g., due to an impending or pending legal dispute), the data will not be deleted until it is no longer relevant. Other statutory retention obligations remain unaffected.
